The Work in Progress! project

WiP! is a three-year long project, part of the Local Employment for Africa Development (LEAD) program and financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It combines three intertwined pillars to address youth unemployment in Nigeria, Somalia and Egypt and is coordinated by Oxfam Novib. As part of the project:

  1. Youth are trained with market relevant skills and connected to the job market and start-ups are linked to ‘angel investors’;
  2. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are provided with Business Development Services, assuming that more employment opportunities for young people are created as the business grow;
  3. An enabling environment for youth and SMEs is created through advocacy work.

Impact management training in Nigeria and Somalia

One of Sinzer’s impact consultants recently travelled to Lagos (Nigeria) and Hargeisa (Somalia) to train local SMEs and business consultants in impact measurement and management. In four interactive sessions, trainees explored the relevance of impact management from a business perspective and were equipped with essential skills and knowledge to kick-start their impact measurement and management. By the time the training came to an end, each SME had created a first draft of their so-called ‘impact framework’ and data collection plan: a solid basis for impact management and further developing their impact strategies. Their hard work, commitment and eagerness to learn definitely paid off.

Guidance along the way

As the SMEs embark on an exciting impact management journey, Sinzer remains their impact partner to provide guidance along the way. The trainees have all shown to be promising ‘impact managers’, and we are excited to support them in their next steps. Whether it comes to further refining an impact strategy, data collection, reporting or translating findings in concrete actions for impact optimisation, we’re ready to share our expertise.
